畬刀溝位于金鞭溪中游北側(cè)的一處峽谷,，因昔日山民在此砍火畬、種包谷而名,。峽谷呈“V”形,，寬二三十米。
谷中溪水發(fā)源于袁家界,，由西北流向東南,，于紫草潭注入金鞭溪，全長(zhǎng)5公里,。
沿溪而上,，有清心潭、無(wú)情峰,、五女拜帥,、百鳥樂園等主要景點(diǎn)。
